Cockie Project

Cockie Project Location - Click to Enlarge The Cockie Project is located some 210 km west-northwest of Townsville in northeast Queensland, Australia. The project consists of a granted mining lease and a surrounding exploration permit application (EPM18987) with an area of 300 square kilometres.

The project covers a belt of volcano-sedimentary rocks of Cambro-Ordovician age with potential for copper-lead-zinc-silver-gold deposits of the volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) type (eg the Balcooma, Thalanga and Reward deposits of north Queensland). The Balcooma deposit, which was discovered by Superior’s Managing Director in the late 1970s, lies approximately 16km northwest of the area.

One Mile Gossan - Click to Enlarge The granted mining lease (ML 6750 “One Mile”) has an area of 128ha and covers a gossan outcrop with a strike length of about 800m. The area is deeply weathered and has partial laterite cover. Records indicate that nine drill holes were drilled into the mining lease area prior to Superior's exploration. Two of these holes intersected a disseminated to massive pyrite zone at depth below the gossan. Assay results from the historical drilling and surface rock-chip sampling of the gossan showed only low-grade copper and gold values (maximum 1.74 g/t Au) but the area was poorly drilled.

Superior has drilled additional holes into the mining lease area and these show a substantial massive and semi-massive sulphide body containing low-grade copper, gold and zinc values. The sulphide body appear to have a southerly plunge with the best drillhole intersection of 7.4m @ 0.42% Cu, 0.5g/t Au and 1.64% Zn occurring at depth at the southern end of the area drilled. Further drilling is planned.

The principal prospect within the exploration permit application (EPMA18987) surrounding the One Mile mining lease is the Cockie Creek copper prospect which is located 5km northeast of One Mile. This prospect has previously been drilled with broad low-grade copper intersections reported (eg Hole CRC017 - 94m @ 0.53% Cu from 121 to 215m). Superior plans further exploration when the exploration permit is granted.
